The bigger problem is that Ms. Dent does not seem to understand the play that Beyoncé is making here. Dent writes, “Ah, Mrs. Carter, a homespun merchandising moniker fragrant with Good Housekeeping notions of baked peach cobblers.” Herein lies the brilliance of Beyoncé’s tour name. By using “Mrs. Carter,” she is thumbing her nose at the patriarchal ideals of what a married woman should look like, be, or do. In fact, Beyoncé is saying that married women cannot just “bring home the bacon,” but fly anywhere in the world to purchase it, and then hire a personal chef to “fry it up in the pan.” Beyoncé honors her husband by using the Mrs. Carter moniker, while still showing that she is as much of a force of nature as she was before she got married.
